New York, NY—July 25, 2018—The New York Red Bulls are excited to welcome Derrick Rose back to the franchise.
After a slow start to the season, Rose scored 20 goals and added eight assists as the Red Bulls advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The 28-year-old, who has been playing for the Red Bull Academy for the last three seasons, will begin his second full season with the club.
“We’re excited to have Derrick back,” head coach Jesse Marsch said.
“He’s a young player who’s developed quickly, and we think he’ll be a huge asset to the team moving forward.”
Rose will be eligible to sign a new contract with the Redbulls, but there are still a few details to be ironed out.
The New York City FC legend will still need to pass his physical to join the RedBulls roster.
After his physical, the club will sign him to an MLS contract and he will then be able to begin his new life in Brooklyn.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity to return to New York,” Rose said.
The Red Bulls’ win over FC Dallas is their second straight victory, after winning four of their previous seven games.
With their current win streak at two games, the Red Wings are now just one point behind the Red Sox for the best record in Major League Soccer.
“It feels great to finally be back with the team,” Rose told Bleacher Pass.
“With the way that we’re playing, we’re definitely playing well.
It’s a big win for us and a big opportunity for our players, and hopefully we can keep winning like this for the rest of the season.”
In the Eastern Division, New York has a three-point advantage over the Atlanta United SC.
With Atlanta still a game ahead of the Red Stars in the standings, they will face off against the Columbus Crew on Sunday in the last playoff spot on the table.
