In a conventional lock, the lock will be made of hard wood, usually a walnut or a cedar.
But in a Casement Lock, the locking mechanism is made of a thin, flexible plastic material, usually wood or fibreglass.
Casement windows are made of plastic, usually plastic with metal reinforcement or glass fibre.
Casements can be easily removed and can be used in the same manner as a conventional door lock.
Some casement door locks are designed to hold a range of objects such as a knife, a car key or a credit card, while others are designed specifically for use as casement doors.

A conventional locking mechanism consists of two parts, the sliding door handle and the locking latch.

The locking latch is attached to the sliding doors handle.
When the door closes, the latch will push the latch onto the lock which will open the door and allow the key to be removed.
Casings locks can also be programmed to automatically open and lock automatically when a door is opened.
The key can then be held on the lock, which will unlock the door.
They can be programmed for various locking methods such as self-locking or key-based locks, as well as keyless locks.
Casing is a term for when the material used to make the door, such as plastic, or other materials, is hard and not flexible enough to be cut.
For example, a door with a wooden base and a metal latch, can be made from anodised aluminium.
The aluminium is then hardened to a high enough quality so it can be cut, sanded and polished to the desired thickness.
