It’s hard to imagine an NFL career ending with a murder case.
Yet that’s what happened to former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jeff Baldwin.
Baldwin was found dead at a hotel room in San Francisco in November 2017.
A medical examiner determined he died of natural causes.
He was 30 years old.
Battling depression and the death of his beloved daughter, Baldwin posted a video of himself at the San Francisco hotel in December, asking fans to pray for him.
He also said he loved his daughters and had decided to take his life.
In a statement on Monday, the family of Baldwin said that the family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and sympathy for the 49ers star.
Barry, Baldwin’s daughter, wrote in a post on Facebook that her father had been struggling with depression, anger and grief.
She said he had contemplated suicide several times in the past and wanted to help others.
The statement did not specifically address the possibility that Baldwin may have been killed by someone else.
It did say that the case remains under investigation.
